My fellow members of the Philippine Society of Newborn Medicine. I would like to remind the members of the Society that we are celebrating 20 years of existence of our society. We became a society, registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission in November of 2005. That is why our logo is marked with “MMV”.
Last week, specifically last Thursday, July 10, was our 100th day since we, the current members of the board of trustees, took over as officers of the society on April 1, 2025. By now, the members should be familiar with who the current officers are. More importantly, the members should be aware of what we have accomplished and the direction we are taking in steering the society into its next 20 years. Good morning to my dear colleagues, friends, ladies and gentlemen:
I have been asked a unique task to open this celebration of the 19th Annual Meeting and 10th International Convention of the Philippine Society of Newborn Medicine. Normally, my task has always been to share with you updated information in Neonatology. So, it was a big surprise for me when Dr. Au Libadia, chairperson of the convention, invited me to give the first plenary talk with an inspirational message instead. I wondered why? Was it because I am already 83 years of age, over ripe and at the end of my career? On second thought, I guessed she meant that I have at this stage already accumulated a vast wealth of life’s experience and it is time that I share something different with you today – not medicine, not medical information but words of wisdom.
