Sub Specialty Board

  1. The candidate shall submit to the Secretary of the Society a duly accomplished application form, letter of intent, certification of training with all the supporting documents and recommendation letter from the Research Committee (see Checklist of Requirements for Applicants) on or before April 15 of each year.  This shall be the reference date for the duration of training and years of practice.1.1 For those retaking the examinations, their letter of intent should include the date/s of previous examinations.1.2 Foreign graduates should have completed an accredited three-year Newborn Medicine fellowship training program. If board certified in country of training, they must submit relevant documentation.
    1.3 Research papers acceptable for evaluation by the Committee on Subspecialty Research Review should be submitted on or before December 15 of the year prior to the examination applied for (or on the Monday next to the 15th of December if the 15th falls on a weekend).

  2. All duly accomplished application forms with all supporting documents filed on time shall be deliberated on during the regular SB meeting at most two (2) months before the examination.

  3. Upon request of a member of the SB, decision for certification of any applicant may be postponed to the next regular meeting for further deliberation.

  4. It shall be the responsibility of the candidate to follow up the status of the application.

  5. Upon completion of all the requirements for Diplomate, a certificate shall be issued only after the Diplomate takes their oath before an officially designated Inducting Officer at a designated time and place.  The effectivity of the Diplomate status commences on the date specified in the certificate.

  6. If the candidate is unable to take the examination within three (3) years of graduation from an accredited training program, they will require certification of at least six (6) months of refresher course in any PSNbM accredited training program.

  7. There will be a non-refundable application fee as determined by the BOT for all candidates.

  8. A candidate should take and pass both the written and oral examinations within three (3) years from graduation.

  9. If the candidate is unable to comply with above, he/she will be required to submit certification of having undertaken at least six (6) months of refresher course in any PSNbM accredited training program.

Requirements for Application for Subspecialty Board Examination

A. General Requirements

  1. [ ] Letter of Intent addressed to the PSNbM President/Chair of Subspecialty Board
  2. [ ] Duly accomplished Application Form (fill in ALL entries)
  3. [ ] Recent (within the last 6 months) 2 x 2 colored picture with white background (1)
  4. [ ] Current PRC card (photocopy)
  5. [ ] Certificate as PPS DIPLOMATE (photocopy)
  6. [ ] Diploma from a PSNbM-accredited newborn medicine training program (certified true copy)
  7. [ ] Letters of Recommendation from PSNbM Fellows in Good Standing (3)
    Note: The letters must attest to the applicant’s good moral and professional conduct, and if possible
    location of practice of newborn medicine. They must be composed by the recommending Fellows
    themselves and not by the applicants.
    7.1. [ ] From Head of PSNbM-accredited newborn medicine training program (1)
    7.2. [ ] From Training Officer of PSNbM-accredited newborn medicine training program (1)
    7.3. [ ] From PSNbM Fellow, if possible from location of practice (1)
  8. [ ] If the applicant has changed names, submit a copy of the marriage contract or any
    relevant supporting document. (certified true copy)
    B. Additional Requirements for the Written Examination
  9. [ ] Senior author of a research paper on perinatal-neonatal medicine completed within 3 years
    prior to the application
    1.1.[ ] Published in peer-reviewed journal (1 hard copy and electronic copy preferably in
    PDF)
    1.2.[ ] Non-published – Letter of recommendation by the PSNbM Committee on Research
  10. [ ] Non-refundable examination fee upon submission of the application
    C. Additional Requirements for the Oral Examination
  11. [ ] Must have passed the written examination within three (3) years before the oral examination
    or within three (3) years of completing a six-month refresher course
  12. [ ] Non-refundable examination fee upon submission of the application
    D. Additional/Modified Requirements for Foreign Graduates
  13. [ ] Diploma from an accredited 3-year newborn medicine fellowship training program (certified
    true copy)
  14. [ ] Certificate as Diplomate of Newborn Medicine (or equivalent) from country of training, if
    applicable
  15. [ ] Letters of recommendation from PSNbM Fellows in Good Standing (3), if possible at least
    one from intended location of practice.
  16. [ ] Non-refundable processing fee upon submission of the application
    ✴ Once application is reviewed and approved by the Subspecialty Board, a Qualifying Interview
    will be conducted.
